ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
The National Junior Honor Society (ARISTA) at JHS 194 is for 8th graders who have outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character. To become a member of this distinguished group, you must meet the the following criteria:
SCHOLARSHIP - THE STUDENT WHO HAS:
-90% Cumulative average in major subjects inclusive of the 3rd marking period
-NO failing grades
-80% average in all other subjects
-Satisfactory conduct ratings from all teachers
-Either silver or gold honor roll in the final grade of the prior year
SERVICE - THIS QUALITY IS DEFINED BY THE STUDENT'S:
-Approved service credit that is a minimum of 30 hours
-Willingness to uphold scholarship and maintain loyal school attitude
-Participation in community activities (Scouts, voluteer work, etc.)
-Cheerful and enthusiastically volunteers service to the school
-Courtesy in assisting vistors, teachers and students
LEADERSHIP - THE STUDENT WHO EXERCISES LEADERSHIP:
-Is resourceful, a good problem solver and idea contributor
-Promotes school activities and exemplifies positive attitude about life
CHARACTER - THE STUDENT OF GOOD CHARACTER:
-Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior
-Upholds principles of morality and ethics
-Cooperates by complying with school regualtions
-Refuses to profit by the mistakes of others
-Actively helps rid the school of bad influences or environment
-Demonstrates high standard of honesty and reliability
-Shows courtesy, concern and respect for others
CITIZENSHIP - THE STUDENT WHO DEMONSTRATES CITIZENSHIP:
-Understands the importance of civic involvement
-Has a high regard for freedom, justice and the respect for the American form of government
-Demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement with community organizations, school clubs, etc.
